# Autonomous Endpoint Management Manifesto

**We in IT face a growing problem** when it comes to traditional endpoint
management. Legacy endpoint management solutions no longer address the evolving
complexities of information systems.

Unchecked complexity within information systems results in:

- Slow patch and remediation cycles
- Misaligned solutions
- End-of-life technologies
- Hidden configuration and installed-software drift
- Increased cybersecurity risk

To meet this need, we propose the Autonomous Endpoint Management Manifesto.

The AEM Manifesto is a set of principles that prioritizes user-defined
automation, proactive security, and collaborative knowledge to elevate endpoint
management as a strategic imperative.

## Intentional automation over manual task execution

Repetitive IT operations tasks should be automated. Shared reusable human-driven
automation solutions let IT work smarter, reducing workload, and minimizing
errors. Technology should drive the discovery and remediation of problems,
empowering humans to make better-informed decisions.

## Proactive security over reactive responses

Security should be the outcome of proactive policy. Fast, automated patching and
drift-control minimizes exposure and maintains system integrity. Knowing what
(and what not) to automate is critical to reducing attack surfaces and closing
doors on bad actors.

## Data harmony over data silos

Create, document, and share proactive policies and solutions to foster
collaboration between teams and consistency over all IT operations.

# 10 Principles of Autonomous Endpoint Management

Manual efforts and reactive measures have their place. However, we place higher
value on proactive security, collaboration, and human-driven automation.

We propose the following principles to drive business outcomes and harness IT as
a competitive advantage.

1. **Centralize:** Unify the management of devices, automations, and configurations to prioritize consistency and predictability.
2. **Secure:** Remediate critical vulnerabilities before they can be exploited and maintain a resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
3. **Update:** Keep operating systems and software applications up-to-date to deliver consistent and performant digital interactions.
4. **Automate:** Maintain control, while automating repetitive IT tasks to improve efficiency, accuracy, and peace-of-mind.
5. **Inspect:** Monitor device data and proactively identify performance and security issues with AI, ML, and other solutions.
6. **Evaluate:** Track device management process maturity to refine and improve outcomes.
7. **Harmonize:** Enable tools and teams to share data and break down barriers between IT and Security.
8. **Adapt:** Stay proactive with agile, adaptive best practices that stay ahead of operational needs and threats.
9. **Align:** Implement sustainable and scalable solutions that meet your organization’s vision of best possible outcomes.
10. **Simplify:** Minimize unnecessary complexity.
