# AEM Manifesto

> Three values and ten principles for endpoint management, open for any
> organization or vendor to adopt. Not a product.

aem-manifesto.org is three pages of text and a one-page PDF. There is no
application, account, or signup behind it. The document calls itself "not a
product; but a guiding philosophy" and names no vendor and no product. Automox
is a founding voice in it, and describes it as bigger than one company.

## The problem it states

The manifesto's premise is that legacy endpoint management solutions no longer
address the evolving complexities of information systems. It lists the results
of unchecked complexity as:

- Slow patch and remediation cycles
- Misaligned solutions
- End-of-life technologies
- Hidden configuration and installed-software drift
- Increased cybersecurity risk

These are asserted, not measured; the document cites no data.

## The three values

Stated as preferences rather than absolutes. The text says manual efforts and
reactive measures have their place, and places higher value on the first term of
each pair.

- Intentional automation over manual task execution: Repetitive IT operations tasks should be automated. Shared reusable human-driven automation solutions let IT work smarter, reducing workload, and minimizing errors.
- Proactive security over reactive responses: Security should be the outcome of proactive policy. Fast, automated patching and drift-control minimizes exposure and maintains system integrity.
- Data harmony over data silos: Create, document, and share proactive policies and solutions to foster collaboration between teams and consistency over all IT operations.
